IAAF - Projects - Beit Beirut
Beit Beirut is a huge archeological monument that embodies the soul and heritage of the old city.
Beit Beirut is a huge archeological monument and a landmark that embodies the soul and heritage of the old city. More importantly, Beit Beirut embodies the spirit of Beirut and its endurance and resilience in the face of war, adversity, conflict and destruction. Given the symbolism of the monument and IAAF’s intimate involvement in education and culture, it was IAAF’s decision to undertake a major project to fully furnish and equip the library. Beit Beirut is now an icon for civilization and culture in Beirut.
The purpose of the project is not only to enrich the cultural and functional significance of Beit Beirut, but also to preserve its significance and relevance as part of the history of the city. The project was in collaboration with the municipality of Beirut and the Ministry of Culture, and under the patronage and in the presence of His Excellence Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri.
